At Hauslane, we have some simple steps to follow that can help identify & rule out the most common causes of suction issues/concerns.To help understand/diagnose the issue better, please follow the steps in this guide.
- 1. Remove the baffle filters from your range hood.
- 2. Place two pieces of paper or paper towels near the fan grills.
- 3. Turn on the range hood.
What to Look For:
- - If the paper towels stick to the grills or are pulled towards them: Your range hood is working well.
- -If the paper towels flutter: There might be a blockage in the duct or the damper blades (the small doors in the duct) aren’t opening fully.
Next Steps:
- Check the duct setup and make sure the damper blades open all the way. Listen if the range hood sounds louder than usual.
- Detach the duct from the range hood and repeat the paper towel test.
- If the paper towels stick without fluttering, the problem is with the duct or damper. We recommend removing the internal damper blades, especially if you already have external ones.
- Check for flexible ducts:
- If you’re using a flexible duct, make sure it’s fully extended. A scrunched-up flexible duct can block the damper blades.
- For better performance, use a semi-rigid or rigid duct.
General Duct Setup Tips:
- Keep the ducting length under 14 feet.
- Ensure at least 12 inches of straight ducting from the top of the unit before any bends.
- Do not reduce the duct size from 6 inches to 4 inches as this affects performance and increases noise.
